Eligibility
Minimum Age and Weight for Blood Donation in India
The two hard numbers, and the reasons behind them.
Age: 18 to 65
Donation starts at 18 (legal consent) and runs to 60 for first-timers, 65 for repeat donors in most Indian banks — the medical officer has final discretion at the edges.
Weight: 45 kg minimum
A 350 ml bag requires ≥45 kg; many banks require 50 kg for the 450 ml bag. The rule keeps the drawn fraction of your blood volume safely under a tenth.
The related bars
Hemoglobin ≥12.5 g/dL, pulse and BP within range, afebrile, and 3–4 months since the last whole-blood donation — all checked in a five-minute screening.
Frequently asked questions
I'm 17 and willing — any exceptions?
None — but register the day you turn 18; the wait proves the commitment.
Is there an upper weight limit?
No upper limit for donation itself; couch weight capacities are the only practical constraint.
